A “Frenzy” of a Restoration – Part 2

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

Over the last few nights I’ve cleaned out the inside of Frenzy, gave it a light sanding and repaired some minor blemishes w/ bondo. Afterward, I wiped down everything with Denatured Alcohol then one more wiping down w/ Napta and we are ready to paint. Well, not yet… First we need to protect the original near mint side art.

Rich from www.thisoldgame.com recomended and sold me something called “spray mask”. It’s a product you use for stenciling. Pretty easy to work with. In fact, my father stopped by who is in the Graphic Design field and helped (actually, he did most of the work. Actually, I couldn’t stop him. I think it reminded him of his early days in the graphic design field. haa haa. j/k.). We had everything masked and trimmed in less than an hour and more like 30 minutes.

First you apply the Spray Mask and be sure to use a squeegee to make sure the masking material is applied good.

Using a very sharp X-acto Knife carefully trim around the artwork. Seeing the Spray Mask is so thin you can feel the edge of the artwork with the blade of the knife. Just take your time and it doesn’t require a lot of pressure and no need to do multiple cuts.

After “Carefully” pull off the unwanted Spray Mask.

There you have it “Protected” near mint artwork ready to hide from the wrath of the a fresh coat of paint.

“Part Three” of my Frenzy Restoration will be posted by next week. In “Part Three” I will be painting (Yeah, I know… I said that would happen in “Part Two”.) and removing the Spray Mask.
