A “Frenzy” of a Restoration – Part 3
Tagged Under : Arcade, Berzerk, Frenzy, Restorations, Stern
Since “Part 2” the Frenzy restoration has been moving forward fairly quickly. I’ve painted the cabinet, removed the spray mask, installed the black textured T-molding, painted the brackets and carriage bolts, replaced the speaker, preserved / installed the Marquee.
Before I took a short trip I made sure to apply two coats of oil based paint with a foam roller over the coarse of two nights. I wanted to make sure the paint had a few nights to setup which was needed before removing the spray mask. As you can see the paint finish and color match is near perfect.
As you can see the spray mask that was used to protect the original side art did it’s job and worked perfect. I’m not sure what else I can say to describe what a great product this is. Just as I was told, with its low tack the spray mask comes right off with very little effort leaving a crisp clean edge and not damaging the artwork. If pictures speak a million words then these photos tell all.
The “Angry Oatmeal Cookie” emerges or “Evil Otto” as he likes to be called.
The freshly installed black textured t-molding looks great and really makes the Frenzy orange/red “pop”!
I applied a couple of coats of “Krylon” satin black to the marquee brackets (I also sand blasted the piano hing and applied a couple coats of satin black as well but didn’t get a photo) and they look almost as good as new.
PCB drawer cleaned and reinstalled.
Replaced / upgraded the speaker. Applied a couple of coats of “Krylon” satin black to the speaker grill (and carriage bolts) before reinstalling the speaker assembly. Looks good as new.
A few coats of “Krylon” crystal clear “Triple Thick” will help prevent the marquee art from getting any worst (not sure it could get much worst). The marquee is far from perfect and will keep an eye out for a nicer one.
That concludes “Part 3” of the frenzy restoration. As you can see it is really taking shape!!! Hope to have everything complete and ready to unveil next week!!!
Nice job! Looks great. I’ve never played Frenzy before, is it fun? I like that pull out PCB draw.
Thanks for the compliment Jamie. Frenzy is pretty much Berzerk. It’s actually a pretty fun game! Best of all, I have Spaeth’s Frenzy/Berzerk ZPU which gives me my “Berzerk” fix.
There needs to be one ‘Super cabinet’. Each of them have their own cool aspect, and that is one of my favorite ideas for PCB mounting.
