Chilly Willy the “Pengo” Restoration – Part 2

Since part 1 of my Pengo restoration post I’ve made some good progress with the limited time I have. As mentioned before, this cabinet needed very little body work. I don’t think I had an easy restoration like this since my Donkey Kong Jr. After a couple of quick coats of bondo a quick sanding (or two) and a good wiping down we were about ready to paint.
In order to protect the black vinyl which is in great condition I used “FrogTape” to mask off the black vinyl edge. I usually use blue painters tape but figured I’d give this tape a try and I’m hoping for great results.
Benjamin Moore Buckland Blue HC-151 is almost an exact color match for “Pengo Blue”. However, I prefer to use oil based paint on my cabinets so I had my local Pratt and Lambert dealer mix me up a quart of oil based paint. My local paint shop sure knows how to mix paint!!!
To wrap this restoration up I need to apply a second coat of paint, install the t-molding, restore the control panel panel, restore the coin door, rebuild the monitor and all the other little details. Amazing how even one of my easier restorations still takes some time. However, in the end, all that maters is that I have a restored game that looks as good (or better) than it did when it came off the assembly line. Lets hope this one can meet my expectations and I think it will.
