Donkey Kong Jr. Gets Some Final Touches.

Several months ago Rich @ This Old Game started selling high quality solvent ink jet Donkey Kong Jr. Bezel Decals printed on self adhesive satin vinyl. So, seeing as I was never 100% happy with the reproduction I purchased from another vendor I decided to order a replacement from Rich. Unfortunately, the other vendor used CPO adhesive on their decal which didn’t want to come off which wasn’t a good thing as I had originally spray painted the lower bezel support.
So, I removed the lower bezel support to strip and sand it back down to the original formica so I could wrap it with vinyl.
After I removed all the paint I cleaned it good with denatured alcohol to make sure the vinyl would adhere.
After cleaning the lower bezel support it was time to apply the vinyl. The vinyl was purchased from This Old Game and was almost an exact match of the original formica Nintendo used. I had a few bubbles but a little heat from a blow dryer the problem was solved.
After the lower bezel support was reattached to the cabinet it was time to apply the new Donkey Kong Jr. Bezel Decal which is a very nice reproduction and much much better than the one I replaced it with. Nice job Rich!
While the control panel was off the cabinet I figured it was a good time to install the correct dust protection ring under the control panel overlay which I purchased from GameStencils.com several months back. I didn’t install the upper dust ring because I don’t like the fact that they scratch the top of the control panel overlay most of the time from normal use.
As you can see these little details really finish off a restoration so be sure to take your time and never be afraid to take a finish restoration one step further.
Did you do this really recently? Or was it a little while ago? Just in time to get rid of the Donkey Kong Jr. eh?
To be honest with you Jeff I did this this past Sunday. Had everything to do this a few months back (or was it closer to 4-5 months back) and needed to finish up what I didn’t finish. haa ha.
Yeah, just in time for it leave the game room.
Thats how the Donkey gets Done!!
