Since purchasing my first game in 2006, I’ve become very selective to what games I want in my personal collection due to space. I’ve also learned to have a keen eye to what are some of the most desirable games that collectors just “need to have” in their personal collections. For many collectors it might just be a simple Midway “Pac Man“, Atari “Centipede” or a Gottlieb “Q*bert“. However, for the more serious collector Atari “Major Havoc” or Cinematronics “Sundance“. For me, it was Atari “Food Fight“.
When I first started collecting I really wouldn’t consider Food Fight much of a grail. In fact, I only remember playing in a few times when I was a kid. But as I became more of a seasoned collector I started paying attention to this gem and started casually looking for one for my collection. I mean, there is something about the artwork on Food Fight (and most Atari games) and game play that is just “fun”.
After pretty much coming up empty handed for over two years I stop looking. Unfortunately that didn’t last long and after playing many games of Food Fight at California Extreme 2010 my desire to locate one locally came back again.
Then out of the blue, my treasure hunt was coming to a close when I was contacted by another local collector stating he had one for me to see. Unfortunately, it would take close to three months for him to dig it out of storage before I could see it which seemed like forever.
The wait was well worth it!!!
