Nice @!#?-ing Marquee.

When I picked up my Q*bert back a couple of years ago it was missing the marquee. While I was looking for a replacement marquee I discovered that Darin Jacobs at Phoenix Arcade reproduced the “Swearing Marquee” back in 2004. Unfortunately, the time I discovered that he still had some in stock I had already purchased the more common marquee in near mint condition and just couldn’t justify buying an additional marquee.
However, like many things in this hobby, you can’t resist purchasing a reproduction that you really want forever. In fact, if you wait too long a reproduction could be sold out. Luckily for me, Darin still had some in stock so I finally decided it was time to purchase one.
Not much to write about other than it looks great on my restored Q*bert. In my opinion, the standard marquee art is kind of redundant to the art under the control panel so the swearing marquee makes the machine a little more interesting.
The quality of the reproduction is first class! But would we expect anything less from Phoenix Arcade?
If your looking to pickup one of these “Swearing Marquee” send Darin an e-mail for pricing and availability.
I could go either way. I think it’s cool to have the more rare marquee version in there, making the commonality of Q*Bert a little more unique. But certainly the colors of the logo lit up are much better than a big white word bubble, no?
You right Jeff, the more common marquee is more colorful. However, a little redundant. I’m happy for the change for a little while.
